Two Women Chatting by the Sea by Camille Pissarro
$39.00
Two women stand together on a sandy path above a quiet bay, seen from behind and the side. One wears a blue dress and red headscarf and carries a basket on her arm; the other, in a pale dress, balances a white bundle on her head with one raised hand. A hazy brown headland runs along the left, small figures wade at the water's edge in the distance, and the sky fades from pale yellow to cream.
Camille Pissarro (French, born St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, 1830–1903) painted this oil on canvas in 1856 and signed it at the lower left C.Pizarro . Paris 1856. The National Gallery of Art, Washington, which holds it, titles it Two Women Chatting by the Sea, St. Thomas.
