A dense bouquet of summer flowers spills from a small urn with sculpted figures, set on a stone ledge. A tall spike of orange-yellow flowers rises at the upper left, beside pink and white mallows, a blue and white passionflower, a spotted orange lily and a feathery crimson bloom at the upper right. The flowers are hand-colored over fine engraved lines, and a numbered list of their names runs beneath the image around a cartouche reading AUGUST.

Henry Fletcher (English, 1710–1750) engraved this plate after Peter Casteels III (Flemish, 1684–1749) for Twelve Months of Flowers. It is worked in black ink with opaque and translucent watercolor on cream laid paper, and the museum record gives no date. The Art Institute of Chicago holds the print.

Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its upright shape and many colors suit a dining room, a kitchen or a guest bedroom.
