Winged Passionflower by Sydenham Edwards
$29.00
A passionflower vine climbs up the sheet against a pale blue sky with soft white clouds, its stem curling into springy green tendrils. One flower is fully open, with coral-pink petals around a ring of purple-and-white banded filaments and a green center, while two buds above are just opening. Broad, heart-shaped leaves frame the flower, a low blue landscape with a few trees runs along the bottom, and a signature and date are written at the lower right.
Sydenham Teak Edwards (British, born in Usk, Wales, 1768–1819 London) painted this drawing in bodycolor (gouache) on vellum in 1799. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which holds it, titles it Winged passionflower (Passiflora alata).
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20 and 24×30 inches. Its upright shape and fresh greens suit a hallway, a bedroom or a garden room.
