Empress Josephine Rose by Pierre-Joseph Redouté
$29.00
A full pink rose with loose, layered petals and a golden center blooms near the top of a single green stem, with several buds and a smaller open flower beside it. Clusters of serrated green leaves branch out to the left and lower right, shaded with fine dots of color. The plant stands on a plain cream sheet, with the names Rosa Turbinata and Rosier de Francfort engraved in script along the bottom margin.
The Met credits this color stipple engraving, dated 1817–24, to Pierre Joseph Redouté (French, born Belgium, Saint-Hubert 1759–1840 Paris). The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which holds it, titles it 'Empress Josephine' or Frankfort Rose (Rosa turbinata), from "Les Roses" by Claude-Antoine Thory.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its upright shape and soft pinks suit a bedroom, a hallway or a dressing area.
