<p>A great heap of flowers and fruit spills across a stone ledge: pink roses, blue irises and red poppies above a pineapple, grapes, plums, peaches and a pomegranate. A bird's nest with eggs and two dead birds lie at the left, and a classical statue stands in the shadows at the top right. Leafy vines trail over the edge of the ledge, and the background fades into warm, dark shadow.</p>
<p>Jan van Os painted this still life in oil on panel in 1774; the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, records its signature and date. The panel measures 89 by 72 cm.</p>
