The Blue Egyptian Water Lily from The Temple of Flora
$29.00
A single blue water lily with a yellow center opens on a tall stem above a still river, between broad dark green leaves and two closed buds. Behind it, a white domed building with a slender tower stands on the far bank at the left under a hill, with palm trees on both sides and a pale peach sky. The printed image sits inside a wide cream margin, with an engraved title and lettering below.
The Blue Egyptian Water Lily comes from The Temple of Flora, or Garden of Nature. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, credits the engraving to Joseph Constantine Stadler, a German engraver active in London from 1780 to 1822, and dates it September 11, 1804. It is an aquatint and stipple engraving printed in color with hand coloring.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20 and 24×30 inches. A cool blue and green print for a bathroom, a bedroom or a quiet sitting room.
