A bright pink flamingo bends its long neck down to the ground, its yellow and black beak almost touching the edge of a dark rock above the water. Behind its legs, a pale blue shallow lagoon stretches back to smaller pink and white flamingos wading in the distance. Fine line drawings of the beak, tongue and foot float in the cream space at the top, and printed captions run along the bottom of the sheet.
The print is credited to Robert Havell after John James Audubon: a hand-colored engraving and aquatint on Whatman wove paper, dated 1838, and Plate CCCCXXXI of The Birds of America. Havell (1793–1878) was an American artist born in England, and Audubon (1785–1851) was American. The sheet is held by the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a tall 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. Its tall shape suits a narrow wall in a hallway, a bathroom or a bedroom.
