A woman in a white dress stands on a grassy rise against a blue sky with white clouds, holding a green parasol above her head. Her veil and skirt are pulled to one side by the wind, and a small child in a straw hat stands lower down in the grass at the left. The grass and yellow flowers in the foreground are quick, broken strokes, and the signature runs along the lower right corner.
Claude Monet (1840–1926), the French painter, made this oil on canvas in 1875, and it is inscribed 'Claude Monet 75' at the lower right. The National Gallery of Art, Washington, which holds it, titles it Woman with a Parasol - Madame Monet and Her Son.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its tall shape and light sky suit a narrow wall in a hallway, a bedroom or a landing.
