A pinkish-orange dirt road climbs from the bottom of the picture over a scrubby hillside of green, yellow and rust-colored brush. To the left a calm blue bay stretches away, and a large blue-violet headland rises against a pale yellow sky, with a rocky cliff at the right edge. The paint is laid on in thick, quick strokes, and a small figure stands on the road where it meets the skyline.
Claude Monet painted this oil on canvas in 1884 and signed and dated it Claude Monet 84 at the lower right. The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, which holds it, titles it La Corniche bij Monaco and describes it as a coastal landscape with a road over a hill on the Mediterranean coast.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its wide, sunlit view suits a living room, a dining room or the wall above a sideboard.
