Tama, the Japanese Dog by Édouard Manet
$29.00
A small long-haired dog with a black-and-white coat stands on a brown floor, facing the viewer with its tongue out and its feathery tail curled over its back. A doll in a dark red robe lies on the floor in front of it, and a thin wooden stick leans against the dark red wall behind. The name TAMA is painted in gold letters at the upper left, and the brushwork is loose and fluid.
Edouard Manet (French, 1832–1883) painted this oil on canvas c. 1875. It is signed Manet at the lower right and inscribed TAMA at the upper left. The National Gallery of Art, Washington holds it in the Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its upright shape and warm, dark tones suit a study, a hallway or a dog lover's living room.
