Prize Bull by H. Call
$29.00
A large, heavy bull with a white coat patched in rich brown stands in profile on a flat green field, its head turned to the right and short pale horns curving upward. A single leafy tree stands at the left, two thin trees and a small pond sit at the right, and the low horizon runs behind its legs. The sky shades from pale pink to lavender, with a few thin streaks of cloud.
H. Call, an American painter active in 1876, made this oil on canvas in 1876 and signed and dated it H. CALL / 1876 near the lower right center. The National Gallery of Art, Washington, which holds it, titles it Prize Bull.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its broad, calm shape and soft colors suit a kitchen, a dining room or a farmhouse hallway.
