Tiger and Snake by Eugène Delacroix
$29.00
A tiger crouches low across the middle of the picture, its orange, black-striped body stretched forward and its jaws open toward a tree at the right. A dark snake coils around the tree trunk, its head raised and turned back toward the tiger. Behind them are thick green bushes, a dark leafy canopy and a pale rocky hill under a patch of cloudy sky, all painted in loose, heavy strokes.
Eugène Delacroix (French, 1798–1863) painted this oil on canvas in 1862 and signed and dated it Eug. Delacroix 1862 at the lower left. It is held by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, as part of its Corcoran Collection (William A. Clark Collection).
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its dark greens and warm orange suit a study, a library or a living room with deep-toned walls.
