Cows, Sheep and a Shepherdess by Jean-Etienne Liotard
$29.00
Print only, frame not included
Under a vast sky of gray and white clouds, two cows rest and stand on a sunny rise while a dark cow and a white sheep wait nearby. At the right a young shepherdess in a pink skirt and blue bodice leans on a wooden fence. Low fields stretch away to a distant village on the horizon.
Jean-Etienne Liotard drew this landscape in pastel on parchment in 1761. The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, describes it as an altered copy after a painting by Paulus Potter, with the shepherdess copied from a painting by Karel Dujardin, and records Liotard's inscription 'd'après P. Potter, ajouté la figure par J.E. Liotard'. The sheet is shown whole, with plain paper added at the edges to reach the format.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. A bright pastoral scene for a living room, a kitchen or a farmhouse wall.
