Cartouche with Swags of Flowers by Jan Philip van Thielen
$39.00
Print only, frame not included
A dense garland of flowers wraps around a carved stone cartouche set against a dark background. Striped tulips, pink and red roses, white narcissus, blue morning glories, orange and red blooms and small sprays of blossom fill every side, with green leaves curling between them. In the center, framed by the stone, stands a small bronze-colored bust on a pedestal, and a few insects rest among the petals.
Jan Philip van Thielen painted this flower piece in oil on canvas. The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, titles it Cartouche Decorated with Swags and Sprays of Flowers and records the signature and date at the bottom left, 'I.P. Van. Thielen .F.Anº 1665'. The canvas measures 99.3 by 65 cm, and it came to the museum with the Dupper Wzn. Bequest, Dordrecht.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a tall 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. Rich color against deep black for a dining room, an entryway or a tall wall.
