A bearded man with reddish hair looks out to the left from under a wide-brimmed yellow straw hat, shown from the chest up in a blue-gray jacket and white shirt. His face is built from short dabs of yellow, red and green, and the hat from curved strokes of yellow and pale green. The background is a pinkish-tan ground covered in small, loose dashes of blue, orange and gray.
Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, Zundert 1853–1890 Auvers-sur-Oise) painted this oil on canvas in 1887. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which holds it, titles it Self-Portrait with a Straw Hat (obverse: The Potato Peeler).
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20 and 24×30 inches. Its close, upright framing suits a study, a hallway or a reading corner.
