A gray spoonbill with a long, flat black bill and a pale pink flamingo with tall red legs stand on a strip of grassy shore inside a thin gold oval, with a band of blue water behind them. A spiky green plant grows at the left and small yellow and white flowers between the birds. Gold capital letters run across the top, the numeral XIV sits at the right, and four lines of Latin script are written below.

Joris Hoefnagel (Flemish, 1542–1600) painted this sheet in watercolor and gold paint on parchment, dated c. 1575/1590s. The National Gallery of Art, Washington titles it Plate 14: Spoonbill Crane and Flamingo, part of the series Animalia Volatilia et Amphibia (Aier), and translates the motto as "I am like a pelican of the wilderness."

Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its wide oval and soft colors suit a study, a hallway or a bathroom.
