Scarlet Macaw with Two Parrots by Joris Hoefnagel
$29.00
A red macaw with blue and green wings and a long blue tail sits on a cut branch in the center of a gold-edged oval. Two smaller green parrots with touches of red and blue perch on curving branches on either side, each growing from a gnarled trunk at the edge of the oval. A line of Latin in violet capitals runs across the top, and the number LVII is written at the right.
Joris Hoefnagel (1542–1600), the Flemish artist, painted this page in watercolor and gold paint on parchment in 1576. The National Gallery of Art, Washington, titles it Plate 57: Scarlet Macaw with Two Smaller Green Parrots, from Animalia Volatilia et Amphibia (Aier). The Latin line at the top reads SENEX PSITTACVS NEGLIGIT FERVLA[M].
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. A light, clear image for a study, a child's room or a gallery wall.
