Hummingbird (Lampornis prevosti) by John Gould
$39.00
Three hummingbirds hover and perch around a tall plant with long green leaves and sprays of small cream flowers. Their backs are bright metallic green, their throats show stripes of black and blue-green, and their spread tails are deep magenta edged with blue-black. A soft blue and pink wash sits behind the birds, and the name LAMPORNIS PREVOSTI is printed below in small capitals.
This hand-colored lithograph on wove paper is credited to John Gould and H.C. Richter, and the plate is lettered 'J.Gould & H.C.Richter, del et lith.' Gould (1804–1881) was British; Richter is listed as British (?), active 1841 to about 1881. The National Gallery of Art, Washington, which holds the sheet, titles it Lampornis prevosti.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a tall 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. Its tall, light shape suits a bedroom, a bathroom or a narrow hallway wall.
