Clipper Ship Contest by Fanny Palmer
$29.00
A three-masted clipper ship sails to the right across a rolling green-blue sea, all its pale sails set and an American flag flying at the stern. A second, smaller ship sails behind at the left, and small sails show on the horizon at the right under a pale blue sky with cream clouds. Below the image the printed title, a dedication and two tables of the ship's dimensions run across the margin, and the old sheet shows brown stains along the right edge.
Frances Flora Bond Palmer (American, born in Leicester, England, 1812–1876 New York) made this hand-colored lithograph in 1853. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which holds it, titles it Clipper Ship "Contest".
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20 and 24×30 inches. Its wide, open seascape suits a study, a hallway or the wall above a desk.
