Bluff-bowed Fishing Boat on the Beach at Scheveningen by Jacob Maris
$29.00
Print only, frame not included
A broad, flat-bottomed fishing boat rests on the wet sand at the edge of the sea, its mast rising high into a gray sky with a small red pennant at the top. Beside the hull a horse and a few figures work in the shallows, and gulls circle overhead. The beach, the water and the sky run together in soft grays and browns, broken only by the dark shape of the boat.
Jacob Maris (1837–1899) was a Dutch painter of the Hague School. Scheveningen, on the coast near The Hague, was the fishing village where boats like this one were drawn up on the beach.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its muted coastal palette suits a bedroom, a bathroom or a living room with a relaxed, seaside feel.
