Temple Ruins by a Lake by William Clarkson Stanfield
$39.00
Print only, frame not included
Ruined classical buildings rise from the water's edge at the right: a tall temple front with a dark doorway, broken walls behind it and a wide flight of steps down to the lake. A small boat with a standing boatman has pulled up to the steps, where a few figures wait. Across the still, misty water, faint ruins line the far shore, all drawn in warm brown tones with pale highlights.
William Clarkson Stanfield made this drawing, which the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, records as pencil on paper and dates only broadly, to 1803–1867. The museum's title calls it temple ruins by a lake in an Italian landscape. It came to the museum with the Drucker-Fraser bequest in 1944. The small sheet is shown whole, with a little plain paper added to reach the format.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a wide 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. Its soft, warm tones suit a study, a living room or an entryway.
