The Dam in Amsterdam with the New Town Hall
$29.00
Print only, frame not included
A broad square opens under a pale sky with drifting clouds. At the left the new town hall stands wrapped in wooden scaffolding, in the center rises the dark, steep-roofed weigh house, and the tall Gothic church towers behind it. Gabled houses line the right side, and the square below is crowded with merchants, horses and carts, and groups of people buying and selling.
The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, attributes this oil on canvas to Jacob van der Ulft and dates it to 1652–1689. Its record describes a city view of the Dam in Amsterdam with the new town hall under construction, the Weigh House and the Nieuwe Kerk, with traders selling their wares on the square and along the quay.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. A lively city scene for a living room, an office or a hallway.
