A sable antelope lies on a rounded mound, its long horns sweeping back in a single arc over its body and its pale, striped face turned to the right. The animal is cut in black with rows of short white strokes along its back, set against a stepped white shape and a black ground, so the whole print reads as a few strong, flat planes.
Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita (1868–1944) was a Dutch graphic artist known for his woodcuts, and a teacher of M. C. Escher. He made this woodcut in 1927; it is now in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, titled Sabelantilope.
