The Hare by Albert de Balleroy
$39.00
Print only, frame not included
A hare sits upright in an open field, ears raised and head turned to listen, its fur drawn in fine, dark lines. Behind it the field stretches back to low hills under a pale sky, another animal runs across the grass in the distance, and a bare shrub stands at the right. The whole print is in soft blacks and browns on warm paper.
The Cleveland Museum of Art lists Albert de Balleroy (French, 1828–1873) and Félix Bracquemond (French, 1833–1914) for this print, The Hare (Le Lièvre), and dates it to 1865. It is a soft-ground etching and drypoint; the image measures 16.2 by 31.8 cm. It came to the museum as a bequest of Elizabeth Carroll Shearer. The sheet is shown whole, with plain paper added at the edges to reach the format.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a wide 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. A quiet country scene for a study, a hallway or a cabin.
