Landscape with Two Oaks by Jan van Goyen
$29.00
Print only, frame not included
Two old, gnarled oaks with broken branches stand on a sandy hill, their leaves catching the light under a heavy gray sky. Two figures rest at the foot of the trees, a traveler walks along a path below, and a flat landscape stretches away to a distant horizon at the left. A bird circles high above the trees, and the light falls in a pale band across the dunes in the middle distance.
Jan van Goyen painted this landscape in oil on canvas in 1641; the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, records his monogram and date, 'VG 1641', at the bottom center. The canvas measures 86.5 by 108.7 cm (sight size), and it came to the museum with the Dupper Wzn. Bequest, Dordrecht.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a 4:5 format: 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. Its earthy browns and grays suit a living room, an office or a den.
