Wall Art Magic and Occult Prints In the world of wall art, there exists a mystical realm where the strange and the arcane converge. The "Magic and Occults" collection is an intriguing array of prints that delve into the mysterious, the symbolic, and the surreal. Artists like Jacob Gole, with his eerie depiction in "The Smell," and Francisco Goya, with his enigmatic "A Way of Flying," take us into a world where alchemy, sorcery, and secret knowledge intertwine. These prints offer a portal to the unknown, where magic and reality blur into one. Renowned Esoteric Artists The collection features the works of artists who have ventured into the esoteric and occult. The timeless mastery of Rembrandt shines through in "Faust," a haunting portrayal of a man deep in an alchemical exchange. Jan van de Velde's "The Sorceress" reveals the darker side of magic, while the mysterious "Two Men and a Ghost in a Workshop" by Johannes Josephus Aarts adds an unsettling element of the supernatural. These artists use their brush and ink to evoke the spirits and forces that exist beyond the ordinary. Composition, Themes, and Ideas Incorporated in Magic Wall Art Prints The recurring themes in these prints center on the unseen forces that govern the world—magic, alchemy, and the supernatural. The geometry of Cornelis Cort’s "Geometria" embodies the mysticism of mathematics, while Adriaen Collaert’s allegorical depictions, such as "Allegory of Africa," weave together nature, myth, and the spiritual. Each composition serves as a narrative of the strange, where boundaries of reality are pushed, and hidden truths are uncovered. The balance of light and dark in these prints mirrors the duality of existence itself. Time Periods, Historical and Cultural Significance of Magic in Wall Art Prints Many of these wall art prints draw inspiration from times when magic and the occult were not merely fantasy but deeply embedded in cultural beliefs. Goya’s "A Way of Flying" reflects the Enlightenment era’s fascination with the supernatural, while Rembrandt’s "Faust" taps into the Renaissance’s obsession with alchemy and secret knowledge. The 16th and 17th centuries, especially, saw a rise in esoteric arts as society sought to reconcile the known and the unknown. Each print is a testament to the enduring allure of these hidden forces. Painting, Sketching, Drawing, Printing Techniques, and Use of Color in Magic Wall Art Prints The techniques employed by the artists in this collection vary, from the dark, shadowy strokes of Goya’s etchings to the intricate detailing in Adriaen Collaert’s allegories. The use of chiaroscuro in works like "The Sorceress" creates an atmosphere where light and shadow engage in a delicate dance, heightening the sense of mystery. Francisco Goya's "A Way of Flying" employs soft, surreal hues to evoke otherworldly dreams. These techniques work in harmony to pull the viewer deeper into the mystical worlds these prints depict.

Hoopoe and Owl by Adriaen Collaert

A tall pedlar stands in a town street, covered from hat to waist in spectacles: they hang from his hat, his chest and his belt, and he holds out a tray full of them. At his feet a man lies on the ground holding a pair of glasses up to his eyes, beside a scroll with lettering. Behind them a street runs back between tall buildings, busy with small figures, and birds wheel in the sky. Spectacle sellers were a familiar subject in Netherlandish prints, where glasses could stand for clear sight or for being fooled. The Dutch title, Brillenverkoper, means spectacles seller. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. A detailed, slightly comic picture for a study, a hallway or an optician's or reading room.

Spectacles Seller by Nicolaes Jansz Clock

A barn owl wearing round spectacles stands on a pile of books, one foot on an open page. Next to it a candle burns in a holder, and a scrap of paper lies across the books. The feathers, the books and the cloth on the table are all drawn in close, careful engraved lines. Under the picture, a Dutch line reads "Wat baet keers off bril, als den Uyl niet sien en wil", roughly: what use are candle or glasses, if the owl does not want to see. The plate is inscribed "H. Bloemaert pinx." and "C. Bloemaert sculp.": a design by Hendrick Bloemaert, engraved by Cornelis Bloemaert. Both were sons of the Utrecht painter Abraham Bloemaert. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. A witty picture for a study, a library or a reading corner.

Autumn and Winter - Two heads made from flora typical of those seasons

Two heads in profile face each other, each made entirely of plants. The one on the left, Spring, is a crowd of flowers and young leaves, with blossoms for the face and a mass of buds for hair. The one on the right, Summer, is built from fruit, grain and full-grown greenery, with a rounded fruit for a cheek and a cloth-wrapped body. Seen from a distance they read as faces; close up they break into separate flowers and fruit. The idea of building heads from the things of a season is best known from the paintings of Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in the 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. A playful picture for a kitchen, a dining room or a hallway, and a natural pair with Autumn and Winter.

Two figures tumble together inside a round medallion, one turned head over heels with his legs in the air, the other leaning in to grab him. A tree spreads behind them, and the ground beneath them is rough and uneven. A broad border runs around the circle, filled with lettering, and the whole medallion sits small and neat in the middle of a pale sheet. The drawing is fine and detailed, so the scene repays a close look. The title presents the two figures as an allegory of folly and drunkenness. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in square sizes: 8×8, 10×10, 16×16, 20×20, 36×36 and 40×40 inches. The small round image on a wide margin looks good in a study, a hallway or a bar area, and on a gallery wall.

A wild old woman flies through a gray sky, her long white hair streaming behind her, her face twisted into a fierce grimace. She clutches a severed, hairy arm in one clawed hand, and her blue patterned robe and loose white garments billow around her. A round red shape rises behind her shoulders. The signature sits in the lower left corner. The scene comes from the Japanese legend of the warrior Watanabe no Tsuna, who cut off a demon's arm. The demon later came back disguised as an old woman to take the arm back. Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892) was a Japanese artist of ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in the 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. A striking picture for a study, a hallway or a living room with a taste for the dramatic.

The Old Woman Retrieves Her Arm by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka

Against a dark sky, men fly on huge bat-like wings strapped to their bodies. In the center, one large figure grips the frame of his wings, his body hanging below them, while others glide further off, small and pale against the darkness. Nothing on the ground tells you where they are or where they are going. The plain gray border of the paper surrounds the dark plate. Francisco Goya (1746–1828) was a Spanish painter and printmaker. This etching belongs to his late series known as Los Disparates, which was published only after his death; Goya left no explanation of its scenes. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in the 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. A strange, memorable picture for a study, a hallway or a living room.

A large circle ringed with letters fills this engraved sheet. At its center a long rod rises from a globe to a star, flanked by smaller globes, and below it a horned beast wearing a tall papal crown breathes out flames. Round labels in the corners read "Philosophi", "Astronomi", "Alchimi" and "Virtutes", and a cartouche at the bottom spells out "Cabala". Small symbols and words are scattered throughout, inviting the viewer to decode them. The picture belongs to the tradition of symbolic diagrams that mixed alchemy, astronomy and religious imagery. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. A curious picture for a study, a library or a hallway, especially alongside other esoteric prints.

A scholar in a white cap and a heavy robe stands at his desk in a dark, crowded study, half turned toward the window. In front of the leaded glass, a disc of light glows in the air, ringed with letters and sending out sharp rays. The scholar leans on the desk and stares at it. Books, papers and a globe crowd the shadows, and the only strong light in the room comes from the apparition. Rembrandt (1606–1669) was a Dutch painter and printmaker. This etching has long been known by the title Faust, although the subject of the scene is still debated. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. The deep blacks and single burst of light make it a strong picture for a study, a library or a hallway.

Faust by Rembrandt

In a cluttered workshop, an old man with a long white beard and a fur-trimmed coat sits back in alarm, while a younger man crouches beside him. At the left, a pale ghostly figure with wide, round eyes rises out of the shadows. A stool lies overturned, a book lies open on the floor, and shelves of bottles and tools fill the background. The scene is etched in dense, scratchy lines, with deep shadow everywhere except around the apparition. The picture leaves open whether the two men called up the figure or simply stumbled on it. Johannes Josephus Aarts was a Dutch printmaker. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. An eerie, story-like picture for a study, a reading corner or a hallway.

Two Men and a Ghost in a Workshop by Johannes Josephus Aarts

In a dark, night-time landscape, a woman in a pale dress stands beside a fire, one arm raised as she works her spell. Smoke and sparks rise in arcs from the flames, and around her crowd strange creatures: a winged beast, a dragon-like animal and a small dark figure. A skull and bones lie on the ground at the right. Almost the whole sheet is deep black, broken only by the light of the fire and the glow of the sorceress herself. Jan van de Velde was a Dutch printmaker; this night scene is among his best-known prints. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in the 2:3 format: 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 and 40×60 inches. A dramatic picture for a study, a hallway or a living room with dark walls.

The Sorceress by Jan van de Velde

A strange, symmetrical face fills this square print. Its eyes are deep spirals, its nose broad and flat, its mouth open and turned down, and a curly beard hangs below. Around the face, scrolls, leaf shapes and a fan of long, pointed fronds spread out like a ruff, with a scallop shell at the top. Every line is crisp and exact, so the mask looks both carved and alive. Ornamental masks like this were made as model designs for craftsmen. The title names Huys and the year 1555; Frans Huys was a Flemish engraver who worked in Antwerp. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in square sizes: 8×8, 10×10, 16×16, 20×20, 36×36 and 40×40 inches. Its graphic symmetry works in a modern living room, a hallway or a set of square frames.

A powerful sea creature, a triton, is seen from behind, twisting round to blow into a large spiral shell. His back and arms are heavily muscled, fins rise from his head like wings, and his body ends in a scaly, coiling fish tail. One clawed hand rests on a rock. Waves and a dark sky fill the background, and the whole figure is modelled in swelling engraved lines that make it look almost sculpted. In Greek myth, Triton was a sea god who blew a conch shell to calm or raise the waves. Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper in 8×10, 16×20, 24×30 and 40×50 inches. A bold, dramatic picture for a bathroom, a hallway or a living room with a maritime theme.
