The Last Attack of the Kusunoki by Utagawa Kuniyoshi
$39.00
Print only, frame not included
Three armored warriors fight on through a storm of arrows against a dark gray sky. At the left one samurai braces himself as he strikes, in the center another swings a long spear above a fallen horse, and at the right a third grips his sword with arrows lodged in his armor. Arrows streak across all three sheets, and the patterned armor glows in green, gold, red and blue.
Utagawa Kuniyoshi designed this color woodblock print in 1847. The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, describes three warriors of the Kusunoki clan trying to hold their ground against a hail of arrows from the Ashikaga troops at Shijonawate, and notes that these three sheets form the right half of a six-sheet composition. They are shown side by side as one image.
Lab-printed to order on luster photo paper, in a long, wide 1:2 format: 8×16, 10×20, 12×24 and 40×80 inches. A dramatic panorama for above a sofa, a desk or a long hallway wall.
